Client Story: Haining Garden Accounting. Building the Marketing Foundations from the Start.

When you're starting a business, marketing can easily become something you plan to sort out later.
First, get the business up and running. Then think about the branding. Then build a website. Then work out what you want to say on it.
But what happens when you think about all of those things together from the beginning?
That's what Beki chose to do when she approached MAAI before officially launching Haining Garden Accounting.
Rather than creating the business first and trying to fit the marketing around it afterwards, we had the opportunity to work with Beki from the outset, starting with strategy and building everything else from there.
The website didn't need to be complicated.
It needed to work.
And, importantly, the whole thing needed to feel like Beki.
Starting With Strategy
We didn't start with a logo or a website.
We started by sitting down with Beki for a start-up and marketing strategy session.
That gave us the opportunity to work through who she wanted to reach, the services she wanted to offer, how she wanted to position the business, her priorities and how she wanted Haining Garden Accounting to feel.
Having that clarity early on gave us something to build from.
Rather than making separate decisions about branding, website design and content, we could make those decisions with Beki and with the wider business in mind.
Creating a Brand That Felt Like Beki
Beki had already developed Haining Garden Cottage and other businesses, so it was important that Haining Garden Accounting didn't suddenly feel disconnected from everything she'd already built.
The new business needed its own identity, but it still needed to feel recognisably hers.
We developed the full visual identity, including the logo, colour palette, typography and supporting visual elements.
The overall style needed to be simple, approachable and down to earth, while still giving Haining Garden Accounting the professionalism and credibility it needed.
But a brand isn't only about how something looks.
Beki's personality and values also shaped the website content, tone of voice and language.
The result is an accounting brand that doesn't suddenly start sounding corporate just because it's talking about numbers.
Making Accounting Feel More Approachable
For some small-business owners, accounting can feel intimidating.
They may know they need help but be unsure what that help looks like, what services they need or even what questions they should be asking.
So the Haining Garden Accounting website needed to make things clearer, not more complicated.
We deliberately avoided overly corporate language and unnecessary jargon, focusing instead on explaining Beki's services in a straightforward and accessible way.
You can see that approach throughout the Haining Garden Accounting website.
The aim was to make the site feel welcoming and less scary to small-business owners who might be unsure where to begin.
That mattered just as much as the visual design.
Because a website needs to do more than look great. If the person visiting it doesn't understand what you do or what they're supposed to do next, it isn't doing its job.
Choosing the Right Website Platform for Beki
A new business doesn't necessarily need the most expensive or complicated website available.
It needs the right website for that particular business.
Cost and accessibility were important considerations from the outset. Beki used funding from South of Scotland Enterprise to support the initial project, and we chose Wix as the platform for the website.
For Beki, it made sense.
It kept the initial development costs manageable, allowed us to launch the website quickly and provided secure hosting and ongoing platform updates. It also gave Beki the option to manage straightforward updates herself.
Most importantly, choosing a manageable solution at launch didn't mean limiting what the website could become later.
Building With Future Growth in Mind
Haining Garden Accounting was a new business, so the website needed to work for what Beki needed at launch.
But we also wanted it to be able to grow with her.
New pages and services can be added over time, while tools such as bookings, payments, email marketing and automations can be integrated as the business develops.
That meant we could keep the initial website focused while still leaving plenty of room for what might come next.
It wasn't about adding functionality simply because we could. It was about putting in place what the business needed at launch while leaving room for other things when, and if, they become useful.
Making the Next Step Obvious
One of Beki's priorities was making it easy for potential clients to get in touch.
That sounds simple, but it's something websites don't always do particularly well.
Visitors shouldn't have to hunt around for a contact page or work out what they're supposed to do after reading about a service.
So clear calls to action and straightforward enquiry routes were built throughout the website.
If someone had found Haining Garden Accounting, understood what Beki could help them with and wanted to take the next step, we wanted to make that step as straightforward as possible.
The Finished Result
The finished result gave Beki what she'd been looking for from the beginning: a clear strategy, a distinctive visual identity and a professional website ready to support Haining Garden Accounting as the business grows.
More importantly, those elements weren't developed separately.
The strategy helped shape the brand. The brand helped shape the website. And throughout the process, Beki's personality, values and plans for the business helped shape the decisions we made.
It meant that when Haining Garden Accounting launched, the marketing foundations were already in place.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I create a marketing strategy before launching a new business?
Thinking about your marketing early can help you make clearer decisions about your audience, positioning, services, branding and how you communicate them. In Beki's case, starting with a strategy session gave us a clear foundation for the brand and website that followed.
Do I need a bespoke website when I'm starting a business?
Not necessarily. The right platform depends on what your business needs, your budget and how you expect the website to develop. For Haining Garden Accounting, Wix provided the functionality and flexibility Beki needed without the cost or complexity of a fully bespoke website.
Can a small-business website grow as the business grows?
Yes, if that's considered from the beginning. Haining Garden Accounting's website was deliberately structured so new pages and services could be added and functionality such as bookings, payments, email marketing and automations could be introduced as the business develops.
What should a new business website make easy for customers
Visitors should be able to understand what the business offers and know what to do next. For Haining Garden Accounting, clear calls to action, contact forms and simple enquiry routes were priorities from the outset.
Could MAAI do something similar for my business?
Absolutely, but it might look quite different. We would start by getting to know your business, where you are now and what you're trying to achieve. From there, we can work out what would actually be useful to you.
Could This Approach Work for Your Business?
Every business is different, and that's the point.
If you're starting something new, or your existing marketing no longer quite fits the business you've become, we can look at where you are now and what you
actually need rather than starting with a predetermined solution.
